Service Description

We live in a unit with a small backyard. Merri creek and Yarra parkland is literally 30 m from our unit. We do two walks a day, one being a longer one. I am home most days.

The visiting dog needs to be okay with kids (my daughter is 13) and preferably be desexed. It helps if they are not too bossy or boisterous, walk reasonably well on the lead and have good recall. I suggest we would always meet up for a walk together first. Gives us a chance to sniff each other out :-)

I grew up with dogs and have a strong common animal sense - I'm doing my PhD in environmental science which involves handling wildlife. Your dog will be part of my family and allowed on the couch, but only after I give the okay. I believe in affection, exercise and discipline as the corner stones for a happy pooch. Happy to provide some training, too.

Finn went over the rainbow bridge. We now have a retired racing greyhound. Where will you walk my dog? Please tell us about the nearby parks.

Merri creek and Yarra parkland is literally 30 m from our unit. We do two walks a day, one being a longer one. Some dogs are more used to being taken out just to chase the ball. I much prefer to take them for a nice long walk, plenty of time for sniffing and socialising. I find the dogs are happier / more settled when they've travelled a bit, rather than done the ball-chasing-retrieving alone.

What information do you need to know about a pet before accepting a booking?

I'd like to know how well your dog walks on the lead. I have a niggly back and can't accept dogs that pull a lot. If they're little dogs, I can correct that behaviour and help you re-train your dog. I generally walk the dogs off-lead, if your dog has decent recall. The dog needs to be toilet trained, okay with kids (my daughter is 13) and preferably be desexed. I suggest we would always check compatibility of dogs on a walk together first. Gives us a chance to sniff each other out :-)

What is the estimated time that you will spend with my pet each day?

I work mostly from home. My dogs get ~20 min walk in the morning and ~30 in the afternoon. Dogs are part of the family, there'll be cuddles, tricks, treats and pats, as well as a gentle correction if needed.
