Since I was a baby, my home was filled with the love and liveliness that pets bring. I grew up being that person that would socialize with the host’s pets more than I would with people at every party I was invited to. And I can’t wait to shower your pets with all the love I have to give. Since entering my third year of medical school, taking on big responsibilities and acquiring skills such as communication through body language and working well under pressure has assisted me a lot even in the care of animals. My family back home currently has 7 pets (three cats and four dogs), and since I moved to Australia by myself in 2019, I have missed being surrounded by animals so much. I don’t have the option to get a pet in Australia, although they’re a big part of what a “home” feels like to me. Being around animals, for example by volunteering to do pet-sitting for some of my friends’ dogs, cats and bunny give me an intense sense of comfort. I have also received an Alison diploma on dog grooming which included various modules such as the anatomy of dogs, dog’s health, psychological tactics and healthy methods of handling dogs, providing satisfying customer service, etc. So, I have ample practical knowledge and good theoretical knowledge to be fully equipped to give your pet everything they need.
Back in Sri Lanka, there are many stray dogs in the streets in need of food and shelter. My family and I have been very involved with the care of animals in addition to caring for our pets. It all started when a few stray dogs arrived at my father’s empty office warehouse. We gave them all lots of love, proper nutrition, funded all the necessary veterinary care for them, and searched for loving families to adopt them. This continues to happen with any stray dog in need of help that we encounter. If we can’t find an animal welfare organization that is willing to provide them with temporary care until they get adopted, my family fosters them, or we end up adopting them ourselves. Jimmy who is so gentle, Lunar who is the most playful, and Katie who is very protective of us have become a big part of my family in this way. And each time, Alfie, the friendly Labrador who has had a special place in my heart for 9 years, welcomed his new brother and sisters like a good boy.
Our three cats, Yoda, Atticus and Cookie, were also once stray kittens in need of homes. Yoda is energetic, and the most vocal cat I have encountered who is a vital part of our family. Atticus’s personality is one of a kind, and she believes that our home is her kingdom and we’re her subjects. Cookie, is the friendliest cat ever, who’s got a beautiful fur coat and she knows it too. So with experience, I understand that each pet is different, has unique needs, and requires a special kind of care. During my time pet-sitting in your home, I would also be happy to take out the trash and take in the mail too.
I can’t wait to make some new furry friends!...
