We are a family of two. We don't have any pets of our own at the moment, but hope to adopt one soon. Until then allow us to spoil yours. We absolutely adore fur babies. We stay in a two storey townhouse with a small fenced yard. Your pet is free to roam around the house, and the yard. Our yard is fully fenced, so the dogs are never on leash except during walks. Most dogs prefer to just laze around on our super comfy couch curled up next to me (after chasing away the sparrows on our yard!). Indoor kitties usually spend time looking at the yard from inside the house through the glass door. It's a popular hangout spot for most kitties that I have housed. They enjoy watching the birds that visit our yard daily.
I moved to Canberra from New York a few years ago. After volunteering for various animal welfare organizations most of my life, I discovered I'm happiest when I'm with animals. I guess you could say I'm an Animal Empath. I have worked on several animal rescue missions, and helped poor puppers and cats find lovely homes. I have experience with skittish cats and dogs. Cats especially can be really stressed in unfamiliar spaces. I usually give them their time and space to relax in their bed, sometimes even a place to hide without any disturbance, until they are comfortable enough to roam the house and interact with me. With cats, I let them make the first move so they know they're in control and that relaxes them instantly. I have had one shy little cutie (a friend's cat) transform into a total snuggle bug that wouldn't leave my side.
During your pet's stay, it's best if you bring a couple of their favorite toys and bedding, so they feel safe with their familiar scent. Overall, I hope to give your pet a fun, relaxed and comfortable stay, so they miss their human as less as possible. You can feel free to visit our home and meet me/my partner before you decide to leave your fur baby with us....
