Hello fellow animal lover! Thank you for considering me as your minder for your your pet.
I'm a scientist who loves animals, particularly dogs, and will treat your pet as one of our family when they are in my care. Your pet will have so much fun and attention with us, with constant stimulus, socialising, exercise, training, love, cuddles, playtime, adventures and fun.
I grew up on a farm training and working cattle and sheep dogs, breaking in and training horses, and have owned a variety of dogs, cats, birds and other animals all my life. I have owned and trained all kinds of dogs, including German Shepherds, Rottweilers, Australian terriers, Blue Healers, Mixed ridgeback and other "Bitsa" crosses, Wolfhounds, Staffys, Jack Russels, Bullterriers, Huskies and even once a Sandy Desert Dingo who kept jumping into our yard and adopted me as his own.
I have volunteered at the RSPCA training and walking dogs from when I was a young university student, particularly large or anxious dogs who were difficult to control. I worked as a pet minder whilst I was at university, where I also studied the science of animal behaviour. I take great pride in observing the natural behaviours of animals so that I can better care for them, guide them and respond to their needs in the best way possible.
I'm an active, outdoorsy person who enjoys walking and playing in the park and going to the beach and I always take my own gentle dog Holly with me. We walk and have outings at least twice a day to ensure that she has enough exercise and mental stimulus. Often we swim at the beach or the river and go to the park, or splash in waterholes or just run along the beach. We go on car rides, socialise with other dogs in off leash areas, and have lots of exercise, adventures and experiences to encourage calm responsiveness and adaptability, and to minimise any anxiety or destructive behaviours. I will adapt to the needs of your pet, so if your dog is more of a chilled out couch potato who likes to sleep and cuddle most of the day, we can do that too ;).
I often work from home and have a large and secure fenced yard with separate fenced areas (mostly to keep the chickens from eating the dog food!) and lots of dog friendly parks and streams near to my home to run and play.
My own dog Holly is well trained and very accommodating of others. I often use her to help train and calm the younger pups, especially those who are anxious, have trouble concentrating on tasks or are difficult to walk on the lead. Holly and her playmates are usually free to come in and out as they please when I am home, and normally they sleep inside on a big soft fluffy mat on the floor in the lounge room.
I consider myself a reliable, caring, calm and attentive person that genuinely loves connecting with animals of all shapes and sizes. I am confident in responding to the individual needs of your pet so that they have the best possible time in our care. I can help with dog training too. It would be a pleasure for me to mind your animals whilst you are away and care for them like they were my own :)
