I am an older Englishman, now also an Australian citizen. I've been coming and going here since the 1990s and settled here in 2011. I have travelled a lot, so rarely been able to have a permanent pet myself but my (now ex) partner and myself had poodles for several years here until recently. Many of my travels involved house and pet sitting, in places as various as Vaucluse and Killara in Sydney, in Sussex (UK) and in central Italy.
As a child, our household always had a cat and today - when I visit my family in the UK, I engage with their various pets (both cats and dogs) - one sister has a deaf cat which took some time to get used to me, but now comes to sit on my lap when I visit. There's a picture of Snowy above, sitting in a flower pot on my sister's little balcony! I attached a selection of pictures above - some not Pets (the elephant in an Indian sanctuary for instance). And most are friends pets - so Charlie the gorgeous Labradoodle is there, as is Susie's bulldog Hebe, hiding in a wall with me! There's Rimsky the poodle in the distance on a beach walk. There's little Bayley - with the red collar who is a sheep dog for friends who farm south of Canberra. The group picture is from an old site of my own (Safe Hands) and includes another white poodle I loved (Martha), there's my friend Robin's liver coloured retriever Ted (with a long-eared friend). My sister's previous cat - Toots. And so on. I couldn't resist a picture of the loveliest parrot in Australia - the Major Mitchell Cockatoo.
I relate especially well to dogs of all types and will have a companion when I am ready to retire!
At the moment, I work casual shifts in the City of Sydney, advising on tourism and the opportunity to have regular contact with local pets especially on weekdays would be very pleasant for me and - I hope - for them.
