About Us – Shane, Jessie & Akarnyjarr

Hi there! We’re Shane and Jessie, and we’d love to welcome your dog into our home.

We live on a peaceful, spacious property just 45 minutes north of Brisbane and 45 minutes south of the Sunshine Coast, nestled near Caboolture with breathtaking water views. It’s a dog’s paradise here—with plenty of open space, fresh air, and natural beauty all around.

We’re full-time dog lovers and part-time dog whisperers (or so we’re told!). I’m a Primary School Teacher, and Jessie works from home full-time, which means there’s always someone home to keep your dog safe, entertained, and comforted. Your dog won’t just be watched—they’ll be loved, cuddled, exercised, and included in every part of our day.

We live with our beloved dog Akarnyjarr (pronounced A-Karn-ja), a gentle and playful four-year-old Kelpie. His name comes from a conjuring language in Cunjen, an Indigenous community in Far North West Queensland, where I had the privilege of teaching for several years—about 8.5 hours northwest of Cairns. Akarnyjarr’s name is a tribute to the culture, stories, and strength of the kids and families I worked with. He is fully vaccinated, health-checked, and absolutely adores making new doggy friends.

Here’s what your dog can expect during their stay with us:
	•	A fully fenced, secure property with heaps of room to explore and run
	•	Access to the river for supervised swims (only if the water’s sparkling clean!)
	•	Dogs are welcome inside the house—especially during storms or bedtime
	•	A doggy door for in-and-out freedom throughout the day
	•	Daily walks, playtime with Akarnyjarr, and constant human attention
	•	Regular photo updates so you always know your pup is safe and happy
	•	FaceTime or Skype check-ins if you’re missing them!

We ask that your dog is toilet trained, doesn’t bark excessively, and is happy to be left outside for short periods during the day (though this is rare). Out of respect for our neighbours and our own routines, we prefer dogs who are not overly high-maintenance or anxious. If your dog has special needs, we’re happy to chat and see if it’s a good fit.

We know that leaving your fur baby with someone else can be nerve-racking. That’s why we go above and beyond to make you—and your pup—feel comfortable, connected, and cared for.

We should also note that the property backs directly onto the water so if your dog is a water baby and likes to jump in the water unannounced it may be not the best fit for us. The dog will have access to the pontoon. Feel free to discuss this further with us.
