I've recently been looking after some friends pets while they are away and really enjoyed the experience. I've been doing home visits and walking for my mother-in-laws dog and I have a cat guest from some friends. I also have may own fury overlords (two cats) who run my house.
While I'm not able to take guests into my home I think home visits and walks are a great option for people and animals.
I especially think that most cats are better off being cared at home rather than being put into catteries, as they have the comfort of their familiar territory and smells. And with someone coming to visit they get the people attention that many cats need to stay happy. Home visits also have the benefit of someone keeping an eye on your property. I'm more than happy to collect your mail and water your plants for you.
Dogs of course need a lot more attention. It's very important that they get some of the companionship that they are missing from their owners. So when looking after a dog I'd want the time to have a bit of a play and hangout with them at the least. Ideally I'd want to take them for a walk to give them some exercise as well. I also have experience cleaning dogs ears and giving them tablets (cheese seems to be the answer for that one).
I'm also interested in looking after aviary birds, as I can't take birds into my house because I don't have a cat free space for them. As a kid a had a neighbor who breed cockatiels. She had over 100 of them and I would keep them feed and watered when she went on holiday. I would also occasionally treat wounds they got by applying animal antiseptic.
I also have experience looking after mice and rats. And if you're pet is unusual drop me a line. I have a friend who has pet scorpions and a snake. I might be able to help you out.
