I know first hand how difficult it can be find that perfect someone to care for your babies so, as I'm now retired, I thought I'd share my love of pets with others by looking after their fur/feather/fin babies when they can't be with them.
For me, pets are always loved and cared for as family members, never as pets.
I've been a pet owner since my teen years. Dogs and cats mainly but over the years my daughter and I have also had guinea pigs, birds and fish. At our peak of pet ownership we simultaneously had 2 dogs, 1 cat, 2 peachface parrots, 5 guinea pigs, 2 axolotles and 1 gold fish.
In 2010 I also became a foster carer for Golden Retriever Rescue and have gained experience in caring for dogs with special needs and I'm proficient at administering medications and caring for pets recovering from injuries/surgeries including amputees and also for senior dogs who sometimes just need a little extra help.
Although my experience is predominantly with larger dogs, I have also looked after friends and neighbours pets. Maltese Shih Tzus, Brittish Bulldogs, Labradoodles and Border Collies.
I don't currently have a pet as I lost my boy Riley in June 2024 to IVDD (intervertebral disc disease) and also just recently downsized from a house to an apartment. While my complex is pet friendly I'm undecided about another pet because I still haven't quite let go of Riley yet but, at the same time, I'm really missing that connection that pets give us.
