As an 8 year old twin, our first puppy was a terrier named Nippy, after her passing, we didn't have any more dogs until I had grown up, matured, marrying and settled in Shepparton Victoria. My mother in law was a registered dog breeder, and as a farmer's wife, started breeding Rottweilers as a hobby. I helped out on the in-law's farm, and enjoyed assisting my mother in-law with the puppies. I assisted in showing the dogs at local dog shows, and we decided to the time was right to acquire a dog . . . when a pup from one of my in laws litters "chose" us a family. We embraced the journey of pet ownership as a family and "Jemma" started the bond of trust and love with my wife, myself, my daughter and our new son. We were a complete family. We were blessed to have our Rottie pup for over 12 years, until illness finally took her. Our next Rottie, Anna was with us for over 14 years, before passing. Our family learned through Dog Obedience schooling how to be responsible and interact with other animals and humans, we had trust, love and respect for each other. Sadly through hip issues, we helped her cross the 'Rainbow bridge'. The hardest day in my life. My mother in law changed to a different breed of dogs, Hungarian Viszla's, one of the most loving, sensitive and endearing animals I have ever been blessed to meet. Our Viszla was with us for many years, and although she has now gone, I yearn for the company of another "fur baby". A friend in Madpaws has shown me how I can still open my heart and home to a four legged friend, on a temporary basis, Walking a dog, sitting on the couch watching TV, and having a conversation with a four legged friend that can reply with a simple tilt of their head, or resting their head on your lap. My home is secure with adequate fencing, and look forward to providing many more years being a part time dog carer, treating any guest to my house as their owner would wish for them....
