I am a qualified animal behaviourist (cert IV) specialising in canine behaviour, exVet nurse who runs a small animal rescue on the side that is currently on hold due to funding issues.
I work from home full time in Animal Health Recruitment (I mostly recruit vets - so I speak to vets all day š¾š©ŗ)
Iām very new to MadPaws which is why I donāt have many reviews yet. There are cheaper pet sitters, but if you want to ensure your pet is in incredibly knowledgeable hands with consistent updates & photos - Iām your girl!
I am highly experienced with dogs from small to giant breeds (I have owned a number of rescued Great Danes & Mastiffs).
I grew up on a farm with a number of working dogs & watched them being trained.
I have been around all types of dogs my entire life far beyond your normal, easy family pet. Especially working in rescue where my specialty was rehabilitating dogs with major behavioural issues & training therapy dogs.
I am also highly experienced with brachiocephalic breeds (French Bulldogs, Pugs etc) & their special needs.
Dogs are my passion & I treat them as family (probably better š.) If I am looking after your pet they are inside with constant outdoor access.
My outdoor courtyard is totally secure with 10 foot walls.
Different dogs have different preferences, so I have real turf, artificial grass petloos & tiles in the courtyard for them for the bathroom, in addition to our walks.
I take dogs in my care out for two proper walks a day, and 1-2 little adventures to our building complexās completely secure & fenced large courtyard area.
My dogs are allowed everywhere in my home (beds, couch etc), so just advise what the rules are for your dog. If they sleep on your bed, they are more than welcome on mine as well - even if they squash me and snore - I donāt mind. Your dog sleeps in a crate? No problem. Whatever is normal for your dog so it feels comfortable and at home.
I was a vet nurse, so I have no issue administering medications & can keep an experienced eye on your pets health during its stay.
I also have a passion for pet nutrition - so feel free to ask me about it as I actually train vets on pet nutrition & a lot of the āpremiumā foods recommended by vets is actually crap, full of cheap fillers & allergens as it is hardly covered in the current Veterinary degree.
I am generally a homebody, however, if I do need to go out for a short period I have three pet cams with motion & noise alerts so I am constantly supervising your pet. If I am going to be out for more than 4 hours during the period of the pet sit I will advise you in advance.
I do have permanent resident dog. A 11-year-old rescue French Bulldog called Dutchy who is a trained therapy dog so she is perfectly behaved & fine with all dogs/cats/people. She just ignores other dogs & spends most of her time asleep next to me. Dogs that are ādog selectiveā are usually fine with Dutchy as I have put a huge amount of work into her since I adopted her and she has been used to 10 years of random
foster dogās of all sizes with all sorts of issues. She is incredibly tolerant. However I obviously canāt take on dogs that are dog agressive & are going to eat herā¦
If I have a client visit for work, I usually take my dogs with me, as most of my clients are vets, so they donāt mind. So some of my PetSit dogs have ended up having accidental free vet consultations.
One young dog in my care I took with me to a visit as I was concerned about some symptoms it showed that the owner said was ānormalā for the dog but I knew were not normal, and the dog was diagnosed with diabetes allowing them to start treatment - extending the young dogs life.
If your dog has some little behavioural quirks you would like to work on, let me know & if you like we can work on that during their stay as I really enjoy my behavioural training work (behavioural training isnāt teaching āsitā etc, it is focused on dog psychology)
I won't take dogs that are not toilet trained or are problem barkers (due to my neighbours.)
Pets often have a few accidents as they get used to somewhere new, thatās fine & to be expected.
However, if your dog is constantly going to the bathroom inside, I do charge an additional $30 per day cleaning fee as I have carpet.
I will advise you of this within the first 24 hours if it is becoming an issue so you can decide if you want to continue the booking, or find another option for your pet.
I have a public Instagram profile if you want to do some further stalking on who you could be trusting with your furbaby feel free to follow me: @clareverrall
I post a lot of dog content š¾š
If you book & donāt want photos of your dog on social media, please advise at the time of booking šø...
