Why do you love being a Mad Paws sitter?
Well besides the unconditional love and cuddles, it is a great way for me to exercise and keep fit. You meet wonderful, caring people who you create a great rapport and trust with and in some cases friendships may be formed.
What’s your favourite thing to do with your furry clients?
It is really nice if the pet I am caring for settles down with me at the end of the day and naps alongside me or most cases on top of me.
What was the first pet you ever owned? Do you have your own pets now?
My first pet I owned was our family dog named Matilda. She was black and white and a mixed breed. Such a gentle nature she had. I have almost always had animals around me. When living in the country as a child I used to collect tadpoles from the local dams and hope they would turn into frogs. I would scoop up any baby birds fallen from their nests where their mother had left them and try to save them. Unfortunately this was rare.
Do you have any particularly memorable furry guests?
Yes. I had an extremely small dog I was caring for. She used to follow me around my home. I had not opened any external doors but for the life of my I could not find her. My heart starts to race. Calling her name there is still no response. Searching the house and no dog. Eventually found. Safe and sound in my second lounge room under the coffee table. I should have put a little tracking device on her.

What’s your one top tip for new pet sitters?
It is not always easy. It is rewarding but some days are long and it can be hard work. Always be diligent with the pet you are caring for. Check and recheck and never be complacent. Check collars watch where you walk for sharp objects, check fences and just be diligent. You are responsible for their care and well being and remember they are pets but at the end of the day they are still animals and you also need to care for yourself and anyone around you.
